Andrea Rossi, the inventor of the Energy Catalyzer, has shared the results of an extended test of a high temperature module. If the results are verified by the group of third party scientists working towards validating the technology, it could mean the "hot cat" is a true breakthrough with huge implications for all of human civilization.

The most advanced version of the E-cat technology is called the "hot cat." The technology can produce very high temperatures of over 1,000 C and is alleged to produce kilowatts of power with a high coefficient of performance (COP).

This Friday at an E-Cat conference in Italy -- the second such conference dedicated to the E-Cat in two months -- Andrea Rossi shared data from a test Leonardo Corporation (his company) performed on a hot cat module -- separate from a parallel set-up being run by several third-party scientists. The results, if confirmed independently by the third-party scientists working towards validating the technology, seem very impressive. These results have been shared with PESN.

Briefly, the reported results are:

TOTAL ENERGY CONSUMED: 278.4 kW-h
TOTAL ENERGY PRODUCED: 3,268 KW-h
COP: 11.7
POWER DENSITY: 163,4 MW/kg
Sterling's Note: There is some controversy about
how these data were calculated.

On the Ragone Plot, this puts this reaction in the same region as nuclear power -- another vindication that the terminology of "cold fusion" is most likely a suitable, concise name for the phenomenon, scientific politics aside.

The text of the report, as we received it, is posted at the end of this article. In short, a high temperature module was operated for around two weeks at an average, stable temperature of 1050 degrees C. Self-sustain mode was utilized for a portion of the total length of the test. Probably, I'm assuming, the drive was used for a couple hours and then was turned off for an hour or so, but this is not specified in the report. All we know is that it claims self-sustain mode was utilized for a total of 218 hours out of the entire 328 hour test (not counting four hours of warm up and four hours of cool down).

If I am interpreting the results correctly, it is asserted that without factoring in self-sustain mode, an approximate COP of around 6 was reached, and with self-sustain mode, the final total COP was over 11. These results -- if replicated by the third party currently doing similar testing -- make it seem likely that Rossi may be able to guarantee the COP of six that he has spoken of for so long.

Rossi expects the group of third party scientists working on the hot cat will reveal similar results when their official report is presented in November. If this turns out to be the case, it will be exciting news for all of us who have been following the E-Cat saga.

A cold fusion technology capable of producing high temperatures, kilowatts of power, and a COP of six would be an enormous breakthrough capable of being used to make this world a better place for all of us by making sustainable, clean, and affordable electric power generation possible. Let's hope the results presented by Rossi match what the third party scientists, who are from multiple universities, conclude in their report.

REPORT OF THE INTERNAL TEST MADE ON THE HOT CAT

Date of the Report: October 9th 2012

ATTENTION: THIS REPORT IS MADE BY LEONARDO CORPORATION, NOT BY A THIRD PARTY. THE TESTS MADE BY AN INDEPENDENT THIRD PARTY WILL BE PUBLISHED AS SOON AS ITS WORK IS FINISHED, BUT WE WANT TO GIVE, IN THIS REPORT, THE DATA THAT WE ARE OBTAINING USING IN PARALLEL THE SAME INSTRUMENTATION THAT THEY ARE USING, WITH THE SAME REACTOR, THE “HOT CAT”.
TAKE THESE DATA AS THE NUMBERS WE REASONABLY EXPECT THAT WILL BE CONFIRMED BY THE INDEPENDENT THIRD PARTY.
THE REACTOR HAS BEEN MADE IN THE USA.
THE MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENTATION HAS BEEN CHOSEN AFTER THE SWEDISH TEST MADE ON THE 6TH OF SEPTEMBER, SO THAT THE MEASUREMENT HAS BEEN MADE WITH THE MAXIMUM POSSIBLE PRECISION, AVOIDING THE USE OF AMPEROMETERS, VOLTMETERS , SUBSTITUTED BY MEANS OF THE INSTRUMENT DESCRIBED IN ATTACHMENT 2, MODULATED BY A VARIAC INSTEAD OF A TRIAC.

Recent info released by Andrea on his Hot Cat device at 1050 C

Lots of questions on this blog site.

Rossi's own calculations are off by four orders of magnitude ! The Stephan-Boltzmann calculation involves multiplying by the surface area in meters squared It should be 0.0891m2, not 891 cm.

Any person accustomed to working at 1,000C knows the radiated power is far below the values stated. Shame on the E-Cat groupies for falling for this obvious error. Rossi has demonstrated less than unity, not over unity

Not So Bad

In response to that, on October 13, 2012 7:44 AM [GMT-7] another scientist wrote:

Oh good grief â€" cant anyone do a simple thermal radiation calculation without cocking up!
0.0891m2 = 891cm2

There are any number of calculators out there for this … like this one
http://www.efunda.com/formulae/heat_transfer/radiation/calc_2bodies_enclosure.cfm#calc

And here are the results with the Rossi’s “data”…

[heat flow = 1.47 x 104 W]

Which is not all that far from the figure Rossi calculated “(fourteen point three hundred and thirty-seven kWh per hour)”

Reality check â€" you try standing in front of an 891cm2 heater element that is glowing a bright orange at 1050C -- that’s a lot of KW’s.

That’s not to defend Rossi’s “data” which includes no calibration data.

Neither Brian nor Rossi should be shooting of their mouths before engaging their brains.

More Supporting Calculations

Have been busy, so I have not been able to Run the math myself on the latest numbers, but I saw Multiple posters on Ecatworld run the math and get power output figures greater than what Rossi reported. Also, Mats Lewan ran the numbers and got a greater power output than what Rossi reported. I think Rossi's numbers are probably very conservative.

Here is the info from Mats Lewan about how Rossi's power out put is higher than what the report claims.

Conference Report

The following report was provided by an Italian who attended the E-Cat conference in Pordenone last Friday. He requested anonymity:

Yesterday in the Polo Tecnologico di Pordenone (Northeastern Italy) there was the 1st Italian conference on eCat and its technology.

During his presentation, the director of Polo Tecnologico di Pordenone (Pordenone Technological Pole), Ing. Scolari said the facility is a center where over 100 companies (many of them are start-up companies) are in contact with each other, with universities, and with the world of innovations and sustainable growth.

The conference room had over 100 people in it, none of which were media, only a pair of bloggers.

In any case, the public was well represented by scientists and technicians, together with some undergraduate and many industrials. Sitting in the audience, there was also Prof. Stremmenos.

The Rossi stuff was comprised of: Rossi, Arch. Pierazzini (marketing and models director), Ing. Fabiani (electronic control director) and Mr. Proia (Italian licensee).

The first speaker was arch. Pierazzini. He explained how he was hired 2 years ago to follow the home eCat, but due to the difficulties with certification, he now is working on the 1 MW - 120° - COP 6 apparatus. He reiterated how presently only this kind of product is in production and ready to sell in 2-3 months. Also, R&D is continuing on both the Hot-Cat and the domestic cat. The granted COP is 6 for now, but they are working to double it around a year. They want to bring the domestic cat the market as soon as possible; and they believe that the marketing experience with the 1MW apparatus can help much.

More than the money-making opportunity, they are most motivated by the will to help the common people .

Afterwards Mr. Rossi empathizes this concept, asserting that he received several big offers to sell his idea to some big companies, but he refused, well-knowing that it should mean much more hard work, but also meant the possibilities to involve little companies and common people in the project!

Next, Electronic Engineer, Fabiani spoke, explaining how he was hired 1 year ago, and he was very skeptical; but then, after seeing the apparatus running, he become an enthusiast and was happy to join to the team. Then he presented his study and development work regarding the electronic control and safety of all 100 modules that make up one 1-MW power plant. It is studied and organized as a net, controlled by a CPU arm 11, and connected with a local PC and via the hinternet with the technical staff of Leonardo Co., too. (The slide of his relation was published by 22Passi yesterday night).

Then Rossi spoke about the theory and how it has changed over time. Now they have a new, credible theory that they will totally explain to the world, when the USA patent will be released. The catalyst will also be revealed at that time! In any case, Rossi anticipated that a part of production of the heat is probably due to the gamma ray rejected by the shielding of the reactor.

He also declared that the hot-cat certification has started, due to the wonderful results they had in the past weeks on the test in their Miami labs.

Before summarizing those data, he informed the public that the complete report (about 120 pages) should be published today on the site of “leonardocorp1996.com” (I've not still time to see if it is true). [Not yet.]

He clarified also that the data of this report are not still certified by third parties, but he also said that the instruments and the techniques used are very sophisticated to reduce at minimum any possibility of error.

After the conference, Ing. Rossi and his staff made available for a further hour and half of questions and photos.

Rossi

And this came in today

Dear all:
Last typo left: the ssm has been 218 hours, not 118
Besides: the energy produced has been cut of 30% to subtract all the possible margins of error.
Warm Regards,
Andrea
