Car2Go â" the well-known carsharing service based in North America and Europe â" will now be offering an incentives program as part of its all-electric offering in San Diego, with the aim of motivating users to leave their cars in a downtown âincentive zone,â as per recent reports.
The incentives program is, quite obviously, intended to help the service cut down on its costs, with regard to needing less of a fleet team vehicle-relocation service.
Part of the âneedâ for the new incentives program is down to the fact that electric cars (available in San Diego and some other locations)Â have to be charged, which takes time â" by concentrating vehicles in a relatively small area of the city, it becomes possible to greatly streamline that process.
âTo encourage users to leave the cars in a new downtown âIncentive Zoneâ (where, we presume, the fleet team will have an easier time recharging the cars), they can get free drive time just for parking the car in the right area,â Autoblog Green writes. âIf the drive is over 10 minutes, theyâll get a 10-minute credit. Since the Smart EDs can take up to six hours to charge, parking them in a central are should simplify things.â
The new incentives program began a little over a week ago, so itâs already in swing for those in San Diego. Presumably, if the program is deemed effective, it will be rolled out in other cities as well. The free minutes earned through the program are valid until the end of the year.
